Our specialised home and online tutors can support your child with GCSEs. In years 10 and 11, students have to prepare for and sit their GCSE exams.
GCSEs consist of three core subjects: Maths, English & Science. Science may be studied as combined or triple science. The students are given the option to pick 6 other subjects which might include Design Technology, History, Geography etc in line with an area that they would like to go into for their careers/ an area that interest them/ a subject area that they would like to study for their A-Levels and university.
There are other vocational qualifications like BTECs or NVQs which are GCSE equivalent which some students may opt for, as they are assignments rather than exam based.
The exams consist of a grading of 9-1 exams; 9 is the highest grade and is an equivalent to an A*, 8 a A etc. In KS3 (years 7-9) students are working towards Grades 1-5 to build their base in knowledge for the GCSE years, where students are working towards Grades 5-9.
The grades achieved at GCSE would be taken into account for getting a place in a college or sixth form to complete certain A-Levels.
